B'Elanna Torres

B'Elanna Torres is a half human, half Klingon female.

Her mother is the Klingon and her father the Human.

The Torres family spent many years on the Federation planet of Kessik IV. Being the only 2 Klingons on the planet B'Elanna and her mother never really fitted in.

Troubles ensued between her parents and eventually her father left. Being only a child B'Elanna concluded her dad left because she looked like a Klingon. Her parents got divorced and B'Elanna and her mum left Kessik and went to live on the Klingon home world of Qo'nos. But with B'Elanna being half human she felt equally out of place there as she did of Kessik. This being so she grew up resenting her Klingon heritidge.

When she crew up she left Qo'nos and entered Starfleet Academy. But she was unable to graduate. It was obvious that she had a discipline problem. Due to this she dropped out of the academy in her sophomore year.

After leaving Starfleet B'Elanna found a new cause more suited to her aggressive tendencies. Chakotay, a former Starfleet officer and now prominent Maquis member saved B'Elannas life and she decided to join the Maquis. A resistence movement who are fighting Cardassian aggressors who are attacking Federation Colonies in the Demilitarized Zone.

In 2371 B'Elanna was on a Maquis ship called the Zosa. It was commanded by Chakotay. While being chased by a Cardassian ship in the Badlands the Zosa was transported 70,000 light years across the Galaxy into the Delta Quadrant. (Roughly 75 years away at max warp)

Shortly after this the USS Voyager is also catapulted into the Delta Quadrant and after theZosa is destroyed by the Kazon, B'Elanna and the remaining Zosa crew are merged with Voyagers to make one Starfleet Crew.

Shortly after the new Starfleet crew starts its long journey home, back to the Alpha Quadrant B'Elanna is promoted to Voyagers Chief Engineer.

In 2374 while still being decades away from home Starfleet figures out a way to communicate with Voyager. B'Elanna receives news that Maquis who are basically her adopted family have been all but wiped out by the Cardassians and their new allies The Dominion. This news sends her into a pit of depression which endangers her life when she decides to punish herself for serviving by using dangerous holodeck programmes with the safety protocols turned off. On a number of occasion this has resulted in serious injuries that she's treated herself in her quarters. The wounds not being treated correctly have left vicious scares.

Thanks to Chakotay, B'Elannas closest friend she overcomes this traumatic period and continues her life.
